Are there any scene/emo cuts for curly hair?

It's out of the question to straighten my hair. It doesn't cooperate well. Anything I can do to edge it up? I CANNOT go short. It poofs out into an afro. This is my hair now (please don't laugh. I did my hair 9 hours ago and just took it out of a pony tail for the pictures. xP):

You can part your hair to the side, but don't get bangs because it will make it worse and it will poof up [experience] OR - You can get side bangs and straighten only that part (but if you do, get a good straightener and thermal cream, again, from experience...now my bangs have split ends and are dried out, yuck!)
