If you have full thick hair, then you'd want to flat iron it to eliminate the extra fullness around your face and bump the ends to draw the eye downward giving the appearance of length instead of width. If your hair is thinner, then you'd want to add more fullness with curls. Not tight curls but with spirals to balance the length and width. Try the look similar to Kelly Clarkson or the older look (not today's) of Kimberly Clark. Both from American Idol. The balance of the width to the length is what should give you the look you desire.
