i've recently found this amazing thing to do with my hair [which is very thick%26amp;long] with my straighteners, you might not understand because i'm rubbish at explaining but here goes :)
put on your straighteners%26gt; take random, medium sized sections of hair in your hand%26gt;spray with a heat protection spray and comb through once or twice%26gt;with the straighteners begin at the roots and put hair in straighteners%26gt;turn straighteners downwards and slide down along the hair for about 1cm%26gt;then turn straighteners upwards and slide 1cm%26gt;repeat this motion until you reach the bottom of the hair - It should look all wavy
when i stumbled upon this technique whilst playing with my straighteners i thought it looked quite good when done to random bits of hair which takes about the time you suggested. But if you do it all over [which takes me about and hour if done properly with hairspray ect].
This is what it should look like if done all over: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40326878@N0
but if you don't have the time them either do a few sections or just the top layer of your hair and a couple on the underneath.
it'll need a bit of practice but it's really simple once you get the hang of it.
If that's too confusing then you can always plait the front of your hair like lauren conrad: http://cdn.buzznet.com/media-cdn/jj1/hea
or put your hair up in a quiff [best done when you have a fringe/bangs]

i hope this helps you :)
you can scrunch it, it only takes q couple of min. to do that
or you can diffuse it
or if it's naturally straight or curly go as you are
my hair is wavy and i wake up at the crack of dawn to do my hair everyday so it takes me sometimes 2 hours to do it
i say if you like your sleep go for one at the top
you can also have a shower before you go to bed and braid it or put it in a twisted bun
good luck
if your hair's dry or wet, short or long, curly or straight, this is amazing!
Get a mouse designed to add wave and texture to your hair, I like Garnier Fructise wonder waves mouse. Use a handful of that and scrunch it into your hair, it takes about 5 minutes and looks fabulous!
Hope this helps!(:
Use Rollers! leave the in, also spray your hair with Volume spray or Straighten it and maybe Back-Comb it
(:
p.s rollers work better if you have wet hair
put some curlers in the night before leave them in over night take thm out in the morning clip the front of your hair back...
You could make a quick small braid and pull it to the side. That's really in style now, plus it works for thick hair.
