There are several things to consider when deciding on your final hairstyle for prom. If you will be using hair extensions and your hair will be much longer than normal you will want to avoid any hairstyle that will require a lot of ';touching up'; during the course of the night. The other is how much attention do you want to focus on your hair versus your dress.
I would assume with your choice of a multi-colored dress that you are not afraid of making a statement, which is good, it gives you options.
My suggestion is that you do what is called a ';messy'; up-do. The hair is pulled back loosely into a ponytail and curled with a curling iron into many small ringlets. The ringlets are pinned in a manner to hide the elastic used for the ponytail and it creates a long cascade of curls down the back. You can have some of the hair in the back left out of the ponytail to fall down your back in a cascade of curls.
This hairstyle can also be done in a more formal French-twist, but instead of completely tucking the ends they are left out at the top and curled.
With such a dramatic dress I would also suggest long dangling earrings to accentuate the lines of the dress. You might also consider some hair jewelry, little pearls, rhinestones, etc. to add a bit of sparkle.
